Getting Started
What is diamond painting?
Diamond painting is a relaxing craft where you place small resin drills (gems) onto a printed adhesive canvas, matching each one to its color-coded symbol. As you fill the canvas, a sparkling, mosaic-style artwork comes to life. Everything you need to finish the piece is included in the kit.
Is diamond painting suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. It's one of the easiest crafts to pick up — there's no drawing or painting skill required. Just match each drill to its symbol and place it. Many people find it calming and easy to do a little at a time.
What comes in my kit?
Every kit includes a pre-printed, pre-glued canvas, color-coded diamond drills (with extras), a drill pen, a tray, and wax. You don't need anything else to get started.
How do I place the drills?
Peel back a small section of the protective film, dip the tip of your pen into the wax, and use it to pick up a drill. Press the drill onto its matching symbol on the canvas. Work one section at a time, and the design fills in as you go.
What ages is diamond painting suitable for?
We recommend our kits for ages 14 and up. The drills are small, so they're best for older teens and adults. It's a calm, screen-free activity that's easy to pick up.
Choosing Your Kit
What's the difference between round and square drills?
Square drills sit flush against each other for a crisp, fully-tiled look with sharp edges. Round drills are quicker and more forgiving to place, with a softer finish and tiny gaps between gems. Both sparkle beautifully — it comes down to personal preference. Round drills are a great choice if you're newer to the craft.
What sizes and prices do you offer?
Each design comes in three canvas sizes, available in both round and square drills. Pricing is $39.95 for the smallest size, $69.95 for the medium, and $99.95 for the largest. Larger canvases hold more drills, so they capture finer detail in the finished piece.
Which size should I choose?
If you're after fine detail — especially on portraits, animals, or busy scenes — a larger canvas holds more drills and captures more of the image. Smaller canvases are quicker to finish and great for simpler designs or a first project. When in doubt, the mid size is a comfortable starting point.
How long does a kit take to finish?
It depends on the size and how much time you put in. A smaller canvas can take a few hours over a few sittings, while the largest size is a longer, more immersive project. Most people enjoy doing a little at a time — it's meant to be relaxing, not rushed.
Custom Kits
How do custom diamond paintings work?
Send us any photo and we'll turn it into a made-to-order diamond painting kit. Choose your size and drill type at checkout and upload your image. Pets, portraits, and family photos all work wonderfully. Clear, well-lit photos with a strong subject give the best results.
What makes a good photo for a custom kit?
Choose a clear, well-lit, in-focus photo with a strong main subject and good contrast. Higher-resolution images convert best. Busy backgrounds and very dark or blurry photos lose detail when translated into drills, so simpler and brighter is better.
Orders & Shipping
How long does shipping take?
Standard kits ship within 2–5 business days, and custom kits are made to order and ship within 3–7 business days. We offer free shipping on US orders over $75; orders under $75 ship at a flat $10. You'll receive tracking as soon as your order is on its way.
Can I track my order?
Yes. As soon as your order ships, we'll email you a tracking number so you can follow it to your door. If you have an account, you can also view tracking in your order history.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
If your order hasn't entered production yet, we can often make changes or cancel it — just contact us as soon as possible at support@canvasbydiamonds.com with your order number. Once a kit is in production (especially a custom kit), we may not be able to change it.
Returns & Guarantee
What is your return policy?
We stand behind our kits with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If something isn't right, reach out within 30 days of receiving your order and we'll make it good. Standard kits should be unused and in their original condition to be eligible for return.
Are custom kits returnable?
Custom kits are made to order from your own photo and can't be resold, so they aren't eligible for return. If a custom kit arrives damaged or there's a problem with your order, contact us and we'll make it right.
Who pays for return shipping?
We do. We'll email you a prepaid return label, so sending a kit back doesn't cost you anything. Just contact us at support@canvasbydiamonds.com with your order number to get started.
What if my kit arrives damaged or I'm missing drills?
You don't need to return anything. Every kit ships with extra drills, but if you ever run short or something arrives damaged, email us with your order number (and a photo if relevant) and we'll send replacements free of charge.
After You Finish
Can I frame or seal my finished painting?
Yes. Once every drill is in place, press them down firmly with a rolling pin or book so they're secure. From there you can frame it as-is, or apply a sealer made for diamond art if you'd like to lock the drills in and keep dust out. Sealing is optional — many people simply frame and display theirs.
